Membership of BMETS
About being a member of BMETS
You can become involved in BMETS through membership or as a supporter.
It is heartening to belong to a group committed to helping East Timorese people in direct and practical ways. We know the money we raise makes a difference
About members:
- Membership is open to any women living in the Blue Mountains or with a major association with the Mountains
- Women can nominate themselves for membership. Members must be willing to support our aims and philosophy
- Members must be able and willing to be active in pursuing our goals
- Members will support BMETS by attending meetings and contributing to fundraising activities
About supporters:
- Supporters can be actively involved in the activities of BMETS but will not be expected to attend meetings or contribute to the core functioning of the group
- Supporters may be women or men and need not live in the Blue Mountains area
What can members and supporters expect of BMETS?
- Minutes of meetings and other BMETS notices, other BMETS operational information will be sent to members.
- Supporters will not receive minutes
- Notices of events and other general information will be sent to both members and supporters.
Involvement in working groups
All members and supporters can be involved in special purpose working groups
Are you looking for the best way to assist women in East Timor?
Consider these ideas
- Make a donation to the Blue Mountains East Timor Sisters. Cheques should be made out to Mountains Community Resource Network with a note saying the funds are for the Sisters project.
- Contribute to scholarships for students to complete their secondary schooling
- Contribute to the development of Mana Marta's Tais Co-operative (traditional weaving produced by widowed women and is their only source of income)
- Become a member of the Sisters group, attend meetings and contribute directly to fundraising events.
- Attend the Sisters fundraising events.
- Watch the Gazette for details of events or ring us.
- Make contact with associated East Timor support groups and contribute to their activities.
- Contribute directly to the Alola Foundation (the women's assistance program set up by the First Lady of ET, Kirsty Sword Guzmao). Information on how to make a donation is on their website,
